2022 update- We are taking a break from our public programming during the Storytellers’ Institute. We hope to return to annual Forums in the future! In the meantime, we invite you to take a look at our previous Forum, which convened virtually in 2021<\/strong> and was generously supported by the Ford Foundation Just Films Program.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the first year ever: we are virtual, synchronous and asynchronous, presented in five different languages, and with co-presenters in four continents. Forum is free and open to the public. MDOCS Forum<\/strong>\u202fproudly brings together non-fiction makers across mediums and practices, as well as students, scholars and activists, to generate productive exchanges and encourage self-reflexive questioning of documentary practices around a yearly theme. This year’s theme: Co-Creation: Delights, Discontents & Dislocations<\/a>, <\/strong>is a call to all collaborators, collectives and co-creators of knowledge, a call to those coming from activism, community organizing, and collective power building and a call to those willing to transgress artistic boundaries and academic disciplines in the urgent name of shared agency and more inclusive institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of the last year, we have seen devastating loss and violence. However, we have also seen an abundance of outrage, creativity, and communal care, in the form of protest, mutual-aid, and reinvigorated creative communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through workshops, screenings, panels, and conversations, MDOCS Forum will consider how co-creation has shaped this year in non-fiction art making and how many of the practices that have evolved are rooted in the practices of communities and movements that have always been working towards liberation and equity in the U.S. and beyond. Expanding to a global conversation is particularly resonant this year, with the mutual experience of the pandemic making the world\u2019s interconnections and divisions all the more apparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
