The Co-Creation Initiative facilitates collaborative project development and production in the realms of documentary and non-fiction story-telling.

Project ideas are proposed by community organizations or collectives and creatively unfold in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students at Skidmore College.

This Mellon-funded MDOCS project seeks to:

- Bring media-makers, artists, community organizers, students, scholars, and more into new relationships, across lines of difference through the process of making together-- “co-creating.”

- Produce non-fiction storytelling and documentary projects (in any medium) that enrich and complicate our local, regional, and global dialogues.

- Develop relationships of reciprocity and mutual aid, creating flows of shared knowledge and shared labor to unite us in a shared mission to understand and transform our world.

Partners are selected by presenting in a ‘Community Pitch Session,’ where community organizations, groups, and collectives share stories and project proposals aimed at sparking new relationships that will bring together their work with documentary and Skidmore’s community—bringing contemporary issues and public discourse into the classroom and deepening Skidmore’s connections to our neighbors.

+ $5,000 to support a year of collaborative documentary project development alongside relationship-building with Skidmore faculty and staff.

+ in-kind support including production resources, facilitation, consultation from members of the MDOCS team, and participation in other CCI programming.
