Since the 1960s, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, has been a home for the performing arts in Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Springs, NY. Over the years, SPAC has saved the correspondence, newspaper articles and print matter — programs, flyers, brochures and other promotional materials — it has produced, as well as file cabinets full of promotional materials provided by performing artists.
From February to April 2020, with the goal of making SPAC’s story and history more accessible to SPAC administrators and the public, the bulk of these materials have been reviewed and organized into an archive, using the principles of the respect des fonds to respect original organization where possible and to create new document series when needed; to preserve and protect documents in acid-free folders; and to make the material accessible by creating finding aids.
